What to study
DREDGE's whole game on one screen: catch fish, then fit them into the boat. The right half is the cargo hold drawn as a slot-grid in the shape of a hull, and nothing in it is a tidy 1x1 icon, a crab sprawls across four cells, a long fish stands on its tail, rods and a trawl net lean down columns, and the engines and propellers that upgrade the boat compete for the same cells as the catch that pays for them. Above the grid the panel does the bookkeeping in plain text (Boat Speed, Fishing Speed, Lights) and sorts the sea into four colour-coded chips, COASTAL, SHALLOW, OCEANIC, DREDGE, the same habitat colours the Encyclopedia (dredge-1) uses as its page tabs, so the player learns one colour language and reads it everywhere. On the left, the fishing itself is a single circular gauge: a white silhouette names the shape of what is biting, two green arcs ride a maroon ring, and one button, Pull [F], is the whole verb set; the panel beside it grades the spot before you commit, 'Stock: Low' with the warning word picked out in orange. The frame also shows how little chrome the open-sea HUD needs around these two panels: a clock dial and compass at top centre ('Thursday, Day 11, 10:01'), the money at top right, a depth ruler down the left edge, and the boat itself small and top-down between rocks, fish shadows already circling it. Frame at about 0:10 in the DREDGE: Complete Edition Trailer (Steam), manually extracted at 9.5s: the fishing beat runs about 7-11s inside one continuous top-down shot, and the scene-change pass caught no frame of it (its first candidate is the interior at 12.5s), so this settled mid-beat frame was pulled by hand. No publisher burn-in, logo or caption appears anywhere in the frame; every element described is game UI.

Screen inventory
- the CARGO panel at right: boat stats (Boat Speed: 35 kn, Fishing Speed: 160%, Lights: 1,250 lm), four colour-coded Catchable Fish Types chips (COASTAL, SHALLOW, OCEANIC, DREDGE) and a Damage row of three empty squares
- the cargo slot-grid itself, shaped like the boat's hull: fish and equipment occupy irregular multi-cell shapes (a crab sprawling across four cells, a long green fish standing vertical, rods, a trawl net, twin engines and propellers below)
- at left, the DISTURBED WATER fishing panel: a circular timing gauge ringed in maroon with two green segments, a white fish silhouette at its centre, 'Stock: Low' with Low in orange, a teal SHALLOW chip and a maroon 'Pull [F]' button
- a thin vertical depth gauge at the far left edge, and the boat seen top-down at centre with two fish shadows circling it
- the top-centre clock dial reading 'Thursday, Day 11 / 10:01' beside a compass rose, and the money readout '$675.94' at top right
- a small boat icon with a TAB key chip at the cargo panel's left edge, and a 'Leave [X]' prompt at bottom right
