What to study

The campaign map is where Wildermyth's decades live: the date plaque says Year 37, and the screen is caught in 'Passing', the game's time-advance state, with the company's banners strung along dotted routes between painted sites. The layout lesson is restraint: one objective line, one roster column, one log corner, and everything else is the map, whose sites carry their functions as tiny icons under their names. The soft vignette is not a fade effect but the time system made visible, the world dims at the edges while the years do their work on the heroes in the left-hand stack. Frame at about 0:41 in the Early Access Launch Trailer (Steam; scene-change survivor v1_0006 @ 41.1s). Disclosure: the event log's first line is an Early Access build artifact ('File changed: legacy.json'), noted here rather than cropped away; the Passing vignette is the game's own presentation, as the study note describes.

Screen inventory

  • the map is a painted storybook landscape, soft green regions, rivers, tree stands and a grey mountain mass, with named sites as small illustrated badges (Oxdoor, Deepdoor Spring, Violetbog Spire, Softnook, Danica Post, Dragoncall Finger, Roguedelving, Dryfell Observatory), each with tiny service icons printed under its name
  • the company is present twice: as banner pins and dotted travel routes on the land itself (a party en route to Violetbog Spire, another leaving Danica Post), and as the portrait stack down the left edge, six heroes with class-shield icons, the roster never leaving the map
  • time is the centre-top UI: a hanging date plaque reads 'Year 37, Spring, Day 22' over the word 'Passing' and a green pause medallion, this frame catches the map mid time-advance, the edges dimmed in a soft vignette while days tick by
  • the remaining chrome is one line each: the chapter objective across the top ('Chapter Four, Locate Athen's Spire, Finish Chapter'), 'no target selected' at bottom left, and a running event log at bottom right ('Nate has joined the game. Event: Scout at Frogpine Timbers… Time paused: Job complete: Recruit Opportunity')
