What to study
When a Wildermyth hero falls, the game does not show a death screen, it offers this page. A mortal choice trades the two currencies the whole game runs on, body and legend: survive as Maimed, permanently marked (the card shows the hook hand), or take the Heroic Death and become a better story. The design move is that both outcomes are drawn, not described, you pick the portrait of who she is afterwards. It is the Fight!/Hide! panel grammar pointed at the heaviest decision in the game, and it lands because the interface never changes its voice when the stakes do. Frame at about 1:11 in the Wildermyth Trailer (Steam; manual fine extraction, the panel assembles card by card from about 1:10 and this is its first fully settled frame). Disclosure: this trailer is pre-release footage; the panel shown is the game's own interface with no debug or overlay text in frame.

- a torn-parchment header tab carries the whole stakes in two words: 'Mortal Choice!', the panel is dressed as a page from the campaign's storybook, on the same teal board the game's other story panels use
- the wide panel shows why the choice exists: the heroine grits her teeth as teal spirit-flame bursts out of her chest and arm, she is mid-transformation, the skull pauldron and curled spirit-fingers already part of her silhouette
- below, the two fates are portrait cards of the same woman after each outcome: 'Maimed', downcast, a hook where her hand was, the spirit-twist still curling from her shoulder; 'Heroic Death', grinning, sword levelled at the spirit, lit gold
- neither card carries a stat, a percentage or a tooltip: the price and the glory are stated entirely as character art and a one-word caption
