What to study

Reigns announces progression without ever leaving the game: the unlock banner is an overlay, not a destination. No collection screen opens, no menu interrupts the reign, the red band simply crosses the card you were about to judge and names the new set ('Crooked visions') it just added to the deck. The design trade is visible in the frame: the banner hides the middle of the card, and the game accepts that cost, because the message (your deck just grew) matters more than the card it briefly covers. It is the collection system of a game that refuses to have a collection screen. Frame at 75s in the Gameplay video (Steam; manual extraction). The card screens are presented in the trailer as a central portrait strip with dark side bars (kept full-frame, not cropped).

Screen inventory

  • a full-width red banner cuts across the middle of the frame, 'NEW CARDS!' with the set name 'Crooked visions' beneath it, laid over the card screen without displacing any of it: the decision strip stays visible above and below
  • the card underneath is Loon the Seer, mid-introduction: the text above reads 'With red eyes and a smirk. Here he comes again! The Devil!', the banner announces new content at the exact moment a new character thread opens
  • the king's name at bottom left has changed again, to 'Edward the Seer': epithets track what the reign has encountered, so the name itself is a progress display
  • the four faction icons, the year 640 and the quest checklist ('Win a duel', 'Meet the witch', 'Meet the devil') all persist behind the banner, the unlock is an interruption, not a scene change, and the game never leaves the decision context to deliver it
  • the banner's flat red against the gold-and-black strip is the loudest colour in the whole set: unlocks are the one moment Reigns raises its voice
