What to study

Fortress mode's whole state is compressed into the frame's edges so the map can stay centre: a single top bar carries the emergency first (a red SIEGE banner), then the fortress's name (Strikeink Hamlet), its population and need counts as a bare row of numbers, and a Stocks readout (60, 60, 30, 15, 15, 30) that answers 'how much do we have?' without opening a menu, with the season and year pinned at the far right. Orders live in two toolbars along the bottom and alerts in an icon rail down the left, while the battle itself is annotated in the world's own language, invading goblin squads wear lock icons and thought bubbles (a heart, a face) instead of health bars. Even the defences are read as furniture: a ballista, a catapult and piles of boulders wait inside the walls on the left while the fight happens at the bridge. Frame at about 0:05 in the Siege Update Launch Trailer (Steam).
