What to study

The Anniversary Update's Scenario Editor turns scenario design into filling in a form the game itself could have shipped: a scenario is three star-rated tiers of goals, and authoring one is picking a difficulty and choosing goal types from a list organised by the system each goal measures (money, guests, management). The Objectives Preview card in the centre is the clever part, it renders your scenario exactly as a player will meet it, Easy/Medium/Hard stacked in one card, so the author proofreads the player-facing version while editing. The editor never takes the whole screen: the park being authored stays visible on the left, because a goal like 'Attract 1100 Guests' only means something next to the park that has to attract them. Frame at about 0:47 in the Anniversary Update video (Steam), a manual probe extraction (probes/anniv-p46.5.png at 46.5s).

Screen inventory

  • the editor's frame: a blue SCENARIO EDITOR header with eight tabs, Objectives, Park, Finances, Research, Marketing, Staff, Guests, Crime, docked over the right two-thirds of the screen while the park it edits (a pirate ship ride in a flooded quarry of track) stays live on the left, the normal building toolbar still visible along the bottom
  • centre, the OBJECTIVES PREVIEW card for the scenario 'Pirate Paradise': three difficulty tiers as star-headed groups, Easy (Attract 800 Guests, Build 2 Rides), Medium (Attract 900 Guests, Build 4 Rides), Hard (Attract 1100 Guests, Acquire $15,000.00), the goals read as a checklist a player could recite
  • right, the authoring controls: Difficulty as three stars (one lit), and the Type dropdown open on 'Choose Objective Type', its list grouped by the system the goal measures, Finances (Company Value, Park Profits, Park Value, Pay Off Loans, Total Money), Guests (Firework Display, Guest Count, Guest Happiness), Management (Catch Pickpockets, Hire Staff)
  • Cancel and Confirm buttons ghosted at the bottom right, the editor commits explicitly, nothing applies live while you browse
