What to study

Planet Coaster's front end is a planet: the main menu wraps its panels around a pale globe, and this frame, caught a beat after the trailer's 'SHARE' title card clears, shows the menu doing community work. The Steam Workshop is not a web page bolted on afterwards; it is a panel of the menu itself, with a search field, icon tabs and a Featured Creator list whose rows are people (Flabaliki, James Taylor, Kukamonda), each badged with a gold crown. Selecting one opens their profile as a card beside their full-body guest avatar: Marc Cox, 'Friend / Away', with his Trending Uploads as two blueprint cards, Fairytale House and Windmill, rated in stars and counted in subscribers, hearts and pluses, each dated 18/08/2016. Even the panel under the Workshop list is on-brief: a newsletter signup ('Sign up for your free hat!') with name, email, country and language fields, because in this front end every surface is either playing, sharing or recruiting. The design lesson is the layering, store, social graph and game menu share one blue, rounded, card-based language, so downloading a stranger's windmill feels like part of running your park. Frame at about 0:19 in the Planet coaster GamePlay Trailer 2 video (Steam), a manual probe extraction (probes/p18.5.png at 18.5s; the scene-change pass caught only the Steam-overlay page that follows it). No trailer typography overlays this frame.

  • left, the selected creator rendered as a full-body park guest avatar standing on the menu globe, gold crown hat, blue sweater vest, the profile's owner presented as a character, not an icon
  • centre, the 'Marc Cox' profile card: Friend / Away status, a Steam-branded 'View All Uploads' button, and a 'Trending Uploads' pair of blueprint cards, Fairytale House and Windmill, each with a thumbnail, star rating, subscriber / heart / plus counts and a 'Last updated: 18/08/2016' line, closed by an X at the card's top right
  • right rail, the STEAM WORKSHOP panel living inside the game's own front end: a 'Search Steam Workshop' field, three icon tabs, and a scrollable Featured Creator list (Flabaliki, James Taylor, Kukamonda, Marc Cox highlighted in blue as the selection, Matt Preece, Matthew Simper), every row crown-badged 'Featured Creator'
  • below the Workshop panel, a newsletter card, 'Sign up for your free hat!', with First name / Last name / email fields, Country and Language dropdowns, a terms checkbox and a 'Sign me up!' button: marketing folded into the menu as one more panel
  • the frame's chrome: 'Welcome! ctaylor' user chip top left, the PLANET COASTER logo centred over the globe, and three round buttons top right (menu list, settings gear, exit)
