What to study

A special attack staged as a rhythm test the player performs live. When the finisher triggers, the game does not cut away: it slaps a comic panel over its own HUD, Chai bursting in from the right under the jagged 'HIBIKI!!' masthead, scarf drawn as a single red arc, while a full-width yellow timing bar takes over the bottom of the screen with the inputs printed on the beats themselves, blue X and yellow Y chips the player must hit as the orange playhead reaches them. The telling detail is what survives the takeover: the COMBO METER dial stays at lower left, the grade badge, hit count and score stay at top right (the cut-in's hand even covers part of the SCORE label, and the game does not care), and the fight continues visibly behind the panel, a partner still mid-attack on a robot at centre. Spectacle is layered on top of the information, never instead of it, because the player is still playing during the celebration. Frame at about 2:19 in the Hi-Fi RUSH | Gameplay Deep Dive Trailer (Steam), manually extracted at 138.5s: the scene-change pass caught the plain campus fight around this moment (132.5s and 150.2s) but not the finisher's settled panel, which lasts about a second. No trailer burn-in appears in this frame.

Screen inventory

  • the yellow-orange timing bar running the full width of the bottom edge: black beat ticks, an orange playhead column standing at the left, and blue X and yellow Y button chips waiting on the beats ahead
  • the 'COMBO METER' label in yellow comic lettering with a circular segmented dial beneath it, lower left, just above the timing bar
  • the oversized comic cut-in at right: Chai leaping with his red scarf swirling into a red arc, 'HIBIKI!!' in jagged white comic lettering across the lower right
  • top right, the gold C grade badge, a red '3 HITS!' burst, the 'SCORE' label partly covered by the cut-in's hand, and the score 3,322
  • top left, the green segmented bolt-capped bar with two red X marks beneath its left end; at centre, a partner fighter mid-attack on a robot in the outdoor campus arena, waveform screens standing in the world behind the fight
