What to study
The planning half of the same system the Brute frame shows resolving. Round 1, the Mindthief has led with an initiative of 8, fast enough to act before every monster in the 8 / 11 / 11 / 19 / 21 / 38 row, and the two chosen cards are doing quiet double work: Perverse Edge's top attacks and generates a dark element off the target's conditions, its bottom stuns at range while generating ice and light, and elements are a real currency here, because the scenario card at the right warns that 'All Elements are set to Inert at the start of every round'. The second card's bottom half never touches an enemy at all: Into the Night's Loot 1 is answered by the board, three hexes around the chest lighting up white-blue to show exactly what will be gathered. Gloomhaven's interface keeps translating card text into board geometry, ranges, loot areas and push paths are drawn where they will happen, so the player reads the room, not a manual. Frame at about 1:47 in the Gloomhaven - Gameplay Trailer (Steam; scene-change extraction, candidates/v0_0008.png).
