What to study
The other half of Original Sin 2's tactical design is not on the HUD at all, it is painted on the floor. This deck fight is legible only if you read its surfaces: poison has spread in two yellow-green pools (one burst from the barrel at centre), blood pools where bodies fell, and a fire surface still burns in the shape of the creature it consumed. Every surface is both information and a weapon, poison heals the undead and poisons the living, blood can be electrified or blessed, fire detonates oil and poison alike, so the battlefield itself is a status readout the player scans before spending a single action point. The HUD chrome stays identical to the land fight (turn strip on top, pips and END TURN below), but the hotbar at the bottom is a different character's: potions and a 3-point skill sit in different slots, because each party member's bar is their own freeform arrangement. Frame at about 0:42 in the Trailer video (Steam), pipeline candidate v0_0013 at 42.0s.
