What to study
This frame is Gloomhaven's whole design in one shot. A turn is not picked from a menu: the player commits two ability cards, and each card is two half-actions, a top and a bottom, hinged on the initiative number printed between them. The Brute's pair stays pinned at the left while the turn plays out, Overwhelming Assault (61) over Trample (72), so the decision remains on screen as its consequences land: the x2 and -1 attack-modifier results flipping over the Inox, the push the bottom half promised ('Brute pushes Inox Archer 13 away 2 hexes', in the combat log) actually moving a figure. The same numbers do double duty, the 61 that sits in the card's centre is also the gold-ringed 61 in the initiative portrait row across the top, which is how a card game becomes a turn order without a separate timeline widget. Around the edges, the scenario states its terms as checklists ('It's a Trap!', survive 10 more rounds, 0/10) and a private battle goal (Indigent) that pays the player for not looting, the board game's secret objectives, kept visible but unobtrusive. Frame at about 1:13 in the Gloomhaven - Gameplay Trailer (Steam; manual extraction, the two-card HUD is a held shot inside one long battle sequence, so the scene-change pass fired on the cuts around it, not on the settled screen).

Screen inventory
- across the top, the initiative order is a row of six portraits numbered 4, 16, 16, 50, 61 and 74, the 61 portrait is ringed in gold because its owner is acting now
- left, the Brute's two chosen cards are stacked as full cards: Overwhelming Assault (top half Attack 6; centre initiative 61; bottom Move 3, PUSH 2, 'Target one adjacent enemy') over Trample (Attack 3, PIERCE 2; initiative 72; Move 4 Jump, Attack 2, 'Target all enemies moved through'), each card is two half-actions hinged on its initiative number
- the attack is resolving in the world: red x2 and purple -1 modifier results burst over the Inox, whose health bars read 5 (red) and 12 (green, segmented), with small numbered standee markers 3, 2 and 5 on the figures
- right edge, the scenario panel is a checklist, not a paragraph: 'It's a Trap!', Lose if 1 Tinkerer die; Loot 1 Ornate Chest to win; Survive 10 more rounds 0/10, plus the standing rule 'All Heroes & Summons are permanently Strengthened' and the battle goal 'Indigent: Loot no gold piles or chests tiles during the scenario'
- bottom-right, a three-line combat log narrates the resolution in plain text: 'Inox Archer 13 activates Bear Trap and takes 2 damage' and 'Brute pushes Inox Archer 13 away 2 hexes', under a Gold: 0 counter, while a spilled gold pile glitters on the forest floor
- down the far-left edge, a slim icon rail holds the active character's item slots, helm, armour and boots above, a potion flask near the bottom already shown spent
