What to study

Victoria 3 simulates millions of individual pops, and its Population panel answers them with three people. The Overview tab presents one full-length figure per stratum, a Lower Strata labourer leaning on a shovel, a Middle Strata woman with folded arms, an Upper Strata woman under a lace parasol, and captions each not with a headcount but with a welfare verdict and a number: Impoverished (11.2), Secure (20.6), Secure (23.1), the standard-of-living score doing the work a table would. Above them the panel keeps its two political facts as chips: the whole country is Impoverished (11.8), and 595K of its people are Politically Inactive, disenfranchisement stated as plainly as income. Below, the Profession section begins its stacked Population / Political Strength bars, the aggregate view waiting under the human one. The panel never takes the whole screen: the paper map of Africa stays open beside it, because in this game a population is always somewhere. Frame at about 0:45 in the Release Trailer video (Steam), pipeline candidate v0_0010 at 45.3s.

  • POPULATION header over two tabs, Overview (active) and Detailed List, with the icon rail at left and the top resource bar (£ 577.4K, literacy 33.3%, standard of living 11.8, population 793K) above
  • summary chips under the tabs: the country's standing as Impoverished (11.8), and Politically Inactive 595K, the disenfranchised counted as a headline number
  • three full-length pop figures presented as people, one per stratum: Lower Strata (a labourer with a shovel), Middle Strata (arms folded) and Upper Strata (with a lace parasol)
  • each figure captioned with a welfare label and its standard-of-living score: Impoverished (11.2), Secure (20.6), Secure (23.1)
  • Profession section beginning at the panel's foot, with Population and Political Strength stacked colour bars (partly in frame, the panel scrolls)
  • the flat paper map of central and southern Africa filling the rest of the screen beside the panel: state names lettered on the parchment (Herero, Tswana, Barotse, Lunda), Cape Colony coloured green at the foot, a dashed sea route down the coast and a Paused marker over the Congo basin

Source details

Fetched 2026-10-21. verified 2026-10-21: pipeline candidate v0_0010 (45.3s, Release Trailer video, Steam) inspected visually at full resolution (1920x1080 native); genuine in-game Population panel confirmed settled and legible (both tabs, both summary chips, all three strata figures with their welfare labels and standard-of-living scores readable; settle probes at 46.5s and 47.0s show the identical panel); the Profession section's stacked bars are cut by the panel's lower edge in the source frame itself (the panel scrolls) and are described as such in the study note; no trailer typography overlays the frame
