What to study
When a diplomatic play fails, Victoria 3 stops the world with a single centred modal, and the modal is a mirror. 'War with Hyderabad has broken out!' splits into Attacker and Defender columns that swap their contents: attackers list their belligerents first (Hyderabad's 36 battalions, Spain's 86) and their one war goal (Independence) second; defenders list their war goals first (Hyderabadi War Reparations, Conquer Hyderabad) and their six belligerent flags second, the East India Company's 115 battalions at the head. Everything a player needs to judge the war, who is in, with how much, fighting for what, fits on one card with one way out: the 'To Arms!' button. The play that produced it stays visible behind the modal's left edge, still showing its Countdown to War, the 31/30 mobilised totals and the Worried initiator, so the declaration reads as the end of a process the interface has been narrating all along. Frame at about 0:40 in the Release Trailer video (Steam), manually extracted at 39.5s: the pipeline's scene-change pass emitted no frame for this segment (its nearest candidates are the warship at 34.9s and the painted workers at 40.1s).

Screen inventory
- centred modal headed 'War with Hyderabad has broken out!' with the explanation beneath: 'The Independence play in North India has resulted in a war between you and Hyderabad.'
- Attacker column: Belligerents listed with flags and battalion counts, Hyderabad 36 / 0 and Spain 86 / 30, beside the single war goal, Independence
- Defender column mirrored: war goals first (Hyderabadi War Reparations, Conquer Hyderabad), then six belligerent flags headed by the East India Company at 115 / 30
- a single wide 'To Arms!' button at the modal's foot, over the modal's own ember-red styling
- the Diplomatic Play panel still open behind the modal at left: 'DIPLOMATIC PLAY IN NORTH INDIA', Countdown to War with 'Escalation is continuing...', Total Mobilized 31 / 30, and the Initiator rated Worried with 85 beneath a circular portrait dial
- the play's leaning strip at the panel's foot, Leaning Hyderabad / On the Fence / Leaning East India Company, above a greyed Give In button
- right rail unchanged behind the modal: Active Journal Entries (Avert Mutiny), three Neutral stance rows, Commanders, Generals (115) with Sir Henry Godwin 60 and Sir Henry Havelock 50, and a dated neutrality/mobilisation log running Nov 27 to Dec 16

Source details
Fetched 2026-10-21. verified 2026-10-21: frame manually extracted at 39.5s from the pipeline-downloaded Release Trailer video (Steam) and inspected visually at full resolution (1920x1080 native); genuine in-game war-declaration modal confirmed settled and fully legible (headline, both columns' flags, battalion counts and war-goal names, and the To Arms! button all readable; probes at 37.5s show the modal mid-fade, at 38.0-38.5s its centre still smoke/flame with columns unpopulated, at 39.0s filling, and at 39.8s the identical settled state, the ember treatment at the modal's foot is its own styling, present in both settled probes); no trailer text or watermark overlays the frame
