What to study

The payoff for sparing, stated as a ledger. After the Vulkins are spared, the game does not fade to a separate results screen, it writes the outcome into the same wide text box the battle used all along: '* YOU WON!' on the first line, then the reward line, '* You earned 0 XP and 80 gold.' The zero is the whole argument: sparing pays gold but no experience, so a pacifist run stays at LV 1 by design, and the game prints that trade openly instead of hiding it. Above the box, the two Vulkins stand greyed out, their colour drained to mark them as resolved without violence, a quieter visual than a death animation and a different one from the white, living sprites of the fight itself. No other Undertale screen in the catalog shows a battle outcome or a reward line, which is why this frame earns its place despite sharing the battle chrome. Frame at 25.9s in the UNDERTALE Trailer (Steam), second-pass extraction sp-youwon-25.9.png, accurate seek, inspected at full resolution (1920x1080). The large 'SPARE THEM' caption at upper right is the trailer's own marketing text burned over the footage, and the thin green grid is a trailer production overlay; both are disclosed here and neither is game UI. The 25.4s bracket frame shows the same box mid-type-in ('You earned 0 XP a'), confirming 25.9s is the settled state.

  • thin green grid lines across the upper field (trailer production overlay, not game UI)
  • the status line 'LV 1' and 'HP' with a yellow bar and '14 / 20' beneath the text box, and the four orange buttons FIGHT / ACT / ITEM / MERCY unchanged below it
