What to study
The Spider Bake Sale is a shop with no shopkeeper, no shop screen and almost no UI, which is exactly why it belongs in the catalog. Two webs hang on a Ruins wall, one with a donut, one with a jug of cider; walking up to a web and leaving money is the entire transaction. The game's only concession to commerce chrome is the small black box at right, and even that is written as bookkeeping rather than a storefront: '$ - 7G', the amount about to leave your purse, and 'SPACE - 8/8', the inventory room you have left, the two facts a buyer actually needs, with no item name, no stats and no buy/sell menu anywhere. The result of the purchase then arrives in the ordinary dialogue box at the bottom, '* Some spiders crawled down and gave you a jug.', narrated in the same voice and format as every other event in the game, so buying something feels like something that happened in the world instead of a visit to a separate commercial mode. Frame at about 0:40 in the UNDERTALE Trailer (Steam), manually extracted at 39.8s, the moment after the purchase resolves; the trailer shows no conventional shop interface for this or any other vendor.

Screen inventory
- the purple-brick Ruins room with two white spider webs on the wall and a small wooden sign, the shop rendered as a place in the world rather than a menu screen
- the child seen from behind, standing at the larger web where the goods hang
- the small black prompt box at right reading '$ - 7G' and 'SPACE - 8/8': the price and the free inventory space, in ledger shorthand
- the full-width dialogue box at bottom: '* Some spiders crawled down and gave you a jug.', the completed purchase narrated like any other event
