What to study
The same handbook that documents the buildings also keeps your postcards. Each region gets a journal page of empty photo frames; finished landscapes are pasted in as prints with rosettes and a score, and the loose polaroid sliding across the gutter in this frame shows the collection being assembled by hand, in the fiction. As interface design it turns completion tracking into scrapbooking, progress you can see as a half-filled album rather than a percentage, and it gives the photo mode (which feeds these pages) a destination inside the game's central object. Frame at about 0:53 in the Heatwave trailer (Steam; scene-change survivor v2_0010, the spread is the handbook opened from the savanna gameplay that precedes it).

- the handbook's journal spread, pages numbered 137 and 138 on graph paper: four region sections, CONTINENTAL OUTSKIRTS and CANYON PEAKS across the top, PARCHED DUNES and FRACKED FLOODPLAIN below, each drawn with empty outlined rectangles where photographs will go
- under Parched Dunes the collection has begun: two photo slots are filled with landscape prints, each pinned with a blue rosette and a dark score chip (2838 and 2705), and one more print, a river canyon polaroid, lies loose and tilted across the gutter, caught mid-placement
- the book's furniture stays consistent with the rest of the handbook: coloured chapter tabs down the left edge (climate, trees, buildings, animals, camera), a handbook tab and red X close tab on the right, and hand-drawn botanical plates (a fern, a snake among plants) filling space the data doesn't need
- the world stays present at the frame edges, desert, cacti and dry grass around the open book, so the journal reads as something kept on site, not a separate collection screen
