What to study

Phoenix Point prices its tactics in willpower as well as action points, and this frame makes that economy impossible to miss: the Electric Reinforcement card states its 1 AP / 6 WP cost above the confirm button, the squad bar shows the acting soldier at a full 6/6 WP, and the weapon panel beside it prices the shot itself at 30x4 with shred. Nothing here is a generic 'ability button', every choice carries two budgets, a range (20 tiles), a duration (1 turn) and a stacking rule, all stated before the player commits. The hologram rendering of the squad inside the preview is the game's honesty about area effects: you see exactly who the buff touches before you pay for it. Frame at about 0:11 in the Gameplay Trailer (Steam; scene-change survivor v0_0003).

Screen inventory

  • the OBJECTIVES list sits top left in plain text, KILL ALL ENEMIES, KEY STRUCTURES PROTECTED 100%, and the END TURN button sits top right beside the settings gear: the mission's win conditions and the turn's end are the frame's two fixed points
  • the centre is held by a dark confirmation card for ELECTRIC REINFORCEMENT: 'Give yourself and allies within 20 tiles a bonus of 20 armour for 1 turn. This effect does not stack.' with its price stated as COST, ACTION POINTS: 1, WILL POINTS: 6, and B CANCEL / A CONFIRM at the foot, the ability is a purchase, priced in two currencies, before it is an effect
  • the squad lives bottom left as six portraits under the name 7 ZUZANA KRUGER, HP 260/260, WP 6/6, each portrait carrying a level number and a weapon icon, so the whole squad's readiness is one glance
  • the weapon panel bottom right names the VDM DEFENDER and tabulates it like a datasheet: DAMAGE 30x4, SHRED 1x4, MAGAZINES 0, AMMO 40/40, burst count and shred are given the same weight as damage
  • the battlefield itself is read through the card: soldiers and the target structure render as pale holograms inside the ability's preview, with a 260-point health bar over the structure and red rings under each figure, so aiming the buff is also reading who is in range
