What to study

This is Gears Tactics' player turn at full stretch, and its HUD is organised by question: what must I do (the objective, top-left), who can act (three portraits with ×3 action points and health, left), what can they do (weapon and ability slots, bottom), and when am I done ([END] END TURN, isolated at bottom right). The battlefield keeps the same language, health as red bars over enemies, intent as sight lines, selection as rings, so the eye never has to change dialect between chrome and world. The TAC-COM toggle at top right is the tell that this density is a choice: one key raises the camera to a planning view, and the same information survives the move. Disclosure: the trailer's caption “THIS GAME'S A LITTLE DIFFERENT” is burned across the lower centre of this frame, over the battlefield and part of Sid's nameplate; every HUD element described above sits at the edges and is complete and legible, and this battle is only ever shown under that caption. Frame at about 1:23 in the Gears Tactics Launch Trailer - ENESRB (Steam; manual extraction, no scene-change survivor isolates this HUD; the survivors either side are the pre-battle backdrop at 81.61s and a cinematic quote card at 83.83s).

Screen inventory

  • the mission is pinned top-left as a two-line objective, “Fight across the dam / Gabe, Sid and Mikayla must not die.”, while the top-right carries the camera keys ([Q] [E] [Z] [C]) and the [SPACE] TAC-COM: OFF toggle for the overhead tactical view
  • the squad lives on the left edge as three portrait plates, each with a ×3 action-point marker and a segmented blue health bar with its number (500, 620); the selected soldier's fuller plate names him, LEVEL 1 VANGUARD SID REDBURN, with a [HOME] PASSIVE ABILITIES prompt
  • the bottom edge is the verb bar: weapon slots [F1] 4/4, [F2] 4/4, [F3] ∞ and numbered ability icons ([1] [2] and more) centred, with [END] END TURN held apart at bottom right
  • on the field itself the state is drawn, not listed: red health bars (500) over each Locust, thin sight lines from the squad's overwatch positions, blue selection rings under the active units and a teal destination marker on the dam road
