What to study
This is the screen Kenshi is famous for, caught at rest: the game paused over a hillside camp, ten named portraits in the squad strip, and one man's body itemised at lower left. Health is not a bar but a census, Blood 99, Head 100, Stomach 100, Chest 14, every limb its own pool, and the stat block beside it prices the damage in brackets (DEXTERITY 6, -19), so the injury and its consequence sit in adjacent columns and explain each other. Around it, the orders rail, the money, the Day 3 clock and the speed controls frame the whole as what it is: a real-time-with-pause work roster for people who can be permanently maimed. Even the PAUSED banner is plain, the interface states the game's state the way it states a broken chest, without decoration. Frame at about 1:12 in the Kenshi - Gameplay Trailer (Steam; scene-change survivor v0_0005).

Screen inventory
- the famous paper doll is a list, not a silhouette: Blood 99, Head 100, Stomach 100, Chest 14, Left Arm 100, Right Arm 100, Left Leg 100, Right Leg 100, Hunger 265, each body part its own health pool with its own bar, and Kakarot's ruined chest (14) reads at a glance precisely because every other row is full
- the stat block beside it shows what the injury costs, in brackets: ATTACK 25 (-4), DEFENSE 30, STRENGTH 26 (-6), DEXTERITY 6 (-19), TOUGHNESS 21, DODGE 0 (-3), under State: Normal / Goal: Move order / Encumbrance 0%, the body panel and the numbers panel explain each other
- the SQUAD strip centres ten named portraits (Kang, Sadneil, Shryke, Ruka, Tanishi, Samm, Nat, Rai, Kakarot among them), an RPG party rendered as a work roster, flanked by the INV / STA / MAP / TEC / SQD / HLP button rail and the orders column (BLOCK, HOLD, PASSIVE, JOBS, RANGED, TAUNT, SNEAK) with its standing note '[No jobs assigned]' and RESCUE / MEDIC / PROSPECT buttons below
- time and money sit at the bar's right edge (Money c.10,100, Day 3, 08:39) beside the pause / play / fast-forward controls and a Floor 0 storey selector, and the game states its state as plainly as a wound: a PAUSED banner across the top of the world, the game's own pause indicator
