What to study
Gears Tactics sells its enemy turn as a trap springing. The player who set Overwatch on Tyrone watches the Locust phase through his soldier's eyes: a blue vision cone projected on the ground, an INTERRUPTED! flag the moment an enemy walks into it, damage numbers and a PARTIAL HIT callout as the shots land, and a running combat log at bottom right that records every hit, miss and trigger in plain sentences. The design choice worth studying is restraint, during the enemy phase the interface strips down to banner, cone, health bars and log, because the player's only job is to read consequences; the full action chrome returns with their turn. No trailer text touches this beat: every word in frame is the game's own. Frame at about 1:29 in the Gears Tactics Launch Trailer - ENESRB (Steam; manual extraction, no scene-change survivor isolates this beat; the nearest survivors are over-shoulder shots at 86.54s and 90.17s).

- turn ownership is announced, not implied: a red ENEMY TURN banner sits top-centre over the COG emblem while the player's own HUD (portraits, action bar) withdraws entirely, the enemy phase has a different, sparser interface
- the centre of the frame is one mechanic drawn as geometry: Tyrone's Overwatch vision cone, a translucent blue triangle laid over three Hammerburst Drones behind sandbags, labelled INTERRUPTED! where a Drone's move crosses it and PARTIAL HIT where his fire lands; the Drones carry segmented red health bars (305, 335) and red ground rings
- the bottom-right combat log narrates the exchange in small blue-white lines as it resolves, “Tyrone hit Hammerburst Drone for 255”, “Tyrone missed Hammerburst Drone”, “Tyrone's Overwatch triggered by Hammerburst Drone [2]”, “Tyrone entered Overwatch”, cause and effect kept auditable after the animation
- tracer fire and muzzle flash cut across the cone from the shooter's crate position at bottom centre, tying the abstract triangle to the soldier who owns it
