What to study
This is the screen the game is actually played on, and its design bet is that a prison can be read like a floor plan with feelings attached. Every cell is the same three-object sentence - bed, toilet, bookcase - repeated until the repetition itself becomes the information: the eye scans for the cell that breaks the pattern. People are kept legible at this zoom by radical simplification: a prisoner is a red torso and a surname (Potato, Osborne, Fletcher), a guard on post is one word, 'Stationed'. Everything managerial is compressed into the frame's edges - the top bar carries the whole institution as five numbers (DAY 23, $53,792, $40,935 a day, 65/102 staff, 208/210 prisoners), the clock names the current regime hour (Sleep), and the bottom toolbar is a strip of blueprint glyphs with the three red panic buttons - Shakedown, Lockdown, Bangup - parked at its far right. Frame at about 0:24 in the Prison Architect V1.0 trailer (Steam), a scene-change survivor (v0_0016).
