What to study

A deduction mini-game built out of a map: the game asks a single factual question, where was Yanxi taken?, and the player answers by searching their memory of the palace against a plan where only the plausible locations carry colour and names. Grey for the irrelevant, gold for the candidates: the map's palette is the first hint, and the five diamonds at top-right price being wrong. It is a small, confident piece of design, no timer theatrics, just a question, a document, and the player's own recollection as the mechanic. Frame at about 1:05 in the Announcement Trailer video (Steam), a pipeline scene-change survivor (candidates/v0_0029.png at 64.5s); the caption line across the bottom is the trailer's, the screen is the game's.

Screen inventory

  • the deduction posed as a question in plain text at top-left: 'Where was Yanxi taken?', REVIEW MEMORY is the mode's name, the five violet diamonds at top-right its remaining attempts or confidence
  • the palace as an ink-and-gold plan: most of the grounds washed grey, the candidate locations in colour, The Jade Pavilion, The washhouse, The cafeteria, Vacant chambers, each with a black ring marker, the selected ring lit with a blue laurel circle
  • the map is drawn on a physical sheet, brush annotations in the margins, memory as a document the player interrogates, matching the Case Files notebook
  • prompts along the bottom (Select / Event Log / Pause / Open Notebook, and a Recover action on triangle) tie the mode back to the notebook system
