What to study
The companion gets the same panel as every NPC, with one difference that does all the work: B-12's header is orange, everyone else's is white. That single colour switch lets the player read at a glance whether the voice is the drone on their back or the robot in front of them, with no portrait and no extra chrome. The cost of the fixed-size panel shows here too: a two-word line leaves two-thirds of the box empty, which reads as calm rather than broken because the panel is translucent and the room stays visible through it. Frame at 1:40 in the STRAY | Gameplay Walkthrough (Steam). Disclosure: single short line in a three-line box, so the panel is mostly empty space.

Screen inventory
- the same projected dialogue panel, but the speaker header is solid orange for B-12, the companion drone, where NPC robots get a white header: speaker identity is carried by header colour, not by a portrait
- a single short line, 'Well done.', sits at the top of a panel built for three lines, leaving most of the box empty: the panel never resizes to its text
- the NEXT prompt (square) sits bottom-right, and the cat's B-12 backpack display glows yellow in the foreground, tying the speaker to the device on the cat's back
- behind the panel, Doc's apartment wall: pinned notes, diagrams and a '512MB DDR-400' poster in the game's robot glyph script, with B-12 itself hovering mid-frame
