What to study
Stardew Valley's fishing is a complete minigame carried by one vertical bar. The tall ruler beside the angler holds everything the player needs: a green catch bar that rises while the button is held and falls when it is released, the fish icon that darts up and down inside the track and must be kept inside the green, and a yellow progress column at the bar's right edge that fills while the fish stays caught and drains while it escapes. A treasure-chest icon hovers above the catch bar in this frame, a bonus that can be collected mid-fight if the player can spare the control. There are no numbers, no timer text and no instructions: position is the whole language, and the bar is styled as a piece of fishing tackle, reel graphic at its foot, so the one piece of overt game UI in the scene still belongs to the fiction. Frame at about 2:42 in the Stardew Valley Trailer 1080p (Steam), during the Night Market beach scene.
