What to study
This is the screen the battle is actually played from, and it shows how little SMT V needs to run a turn. The skill list is a plain vertical menu, but every entry carries its MP price in the open, the selected skill's full description sits in a help bar along the bottom, and the Magatsuhi skill is listed last in the same menu rather than hidden behind a mode switch, so the game's most powerful moves are chosen from the same list as a 6 MP buff. The party cards on the right do double duty as the target list, and the Guest tag on Ichiro Dazai marks the Vengeance route's human ally as a party member who does not fuse. The menu is drawn over the live battlefield, enemies and all, so choosing a skill never leaves the fight. Frame at 0:28 in the An Ideal World Trailer (Steam; manual extraction — the menu is only on screen for about a second between a story cut and the skill resolving, so the scene-change pass never catches it settled; found by the dense 1 frame/2s filmstrip scan). Disclosure: the top skill in the list is clipped by the frame's left edge and the list is scrolled; the menu is shown over the live battle scene with enemies visible behind it.
