What to study
Expedition 33's targeting screen is a lesson in how much RPG information can ride on typography and ink instead of boxes. One translucent tooltip states the skill's damage, hit count, synergy (Marked targets) and stance cost in plain sentences; the boss's name and health bar span the top like a chapter heading; the turn order is a portrait rail; and the current character's stance, the state her whole moveset pivots on, is announced by a full-height monochrome portrait panel, STANCELESS, painted like a splash of ink and gold leaf. Nothing is gridded: every element is a brushstroke or a serif, yet the frame answers damage, cost, order, health and state at a glance. Frame at about 0:36 in the Pre-order Trailer (Steam; scene-change survivor v1_0010).

- the skill is sold in one small translucent panel at upper left: the prompt 'Select target.', the name Percée in a tall serif, then the whole contract in three lines, 'Deals medium single target Physical damage. 1 hit. Increased damage to Marked targets. Virtuose Stance: Costs 2 AP', with the keywords (Physical, Marked, the stance name, AP) colour- and icon-coded inside the prose instead of broken out into stat rows
- the boss owns the top of the screen: ULTIMATE SAKAPATATE lettered in spaced capitals under a thin full-width red health bar, while the turn order runs down the left edge as a vertical rail of seven small painted portraits, the current actor's frame flaring with a gold sunburst
- the acting character gets a monument instead of a highlight ring: at right, Maelle's portrait is rendered as a monochrome ink-and-gold splash panel labelled STANCELESS, announcing her stance state at billboard size while she herself stands mid-frame with her back to the camera
- the party persists at lower right as three portrait medallions on ink splashes, Gustave 364/364, Lune 370/370, Maelle 427/427, each with a red health bar, a row of blue AP pips and a level diamond, so the cost of the skill being aimed is readable against the resources that pay it
