What to study
This frame is Monster Train's whole thesis in one gesture. A card game would let you play Echowright to 'the board'; here the board is a train, the champion must go to a floor, and the interface draws that decision as a dotted green arc from your hand to a ring on the floor above, you can see the destination, the unit already standing there, and the wave count ('Waves remaining: 3') that makes the placement urgent, all before you let go. The card never shrinks to an icon while held: its full text rides along under the cursor, because the placement and the card's Resolve effect are one decision. Slay the Spire's combat is a single room; this is the same card grammar stretched vertically across a building you defend floor by floor. Frame at about 0:24 in the Monster Train The Last Divinity trailer (Steam; manual extraction, the scene-change pass caught this battle only mid-effect, between cuts).

Screen inventory
- top-left, the battle names itself under the persistent run bar: crossed swords, 'Guardians of Light', and 'Waves remaining: 3', while the Pyre readout (80, with 20 beneath), gold 50 and ember 15 stay exactly where the map left them
- the held card is the champion Echowright, readable in full mid-drag: 0 cost, 'Resolve: Return a random consumed spell to your hand.', 25 attack / 5 health, CHAMPION ribbon
- a green dotted drag arrow arcs from the card up to a glowing placement ring on the floor above, with a chevron marker on the unit already standing there, deploying to a specific floor is drawn as a path you trace, not a tile you click
- two floors are visible at once: armoured enemies and crystal growths below, the target floor above; a gold up-arrow tab at the top centre is the control for scrolling the train's floors
- bottom chrome is four facts: the ember flame reads 1, the draw pile shows 10 with +3/+5 diamond markers, the discard pile shows 2, and End Turn is a large brass button at bottom-right
