What to study

The companion view to the Lightning Mech screen, and the one that proves the telegraph system is symmetric: click an enemy and the bottom-left panel swaps your pilot for the Scarab's portrait and name, while the board draws that side's intentions just as plainly. Four Vek in the lower-right quadrant are all mid-declaration, bent red arrows showing push-and-attack directions off the shield-bubbled unit and the downed mech, a straight arrow rising from a cracked emergence tile, red hand markers on the attackers, and a second striped target zone threatens the building cluster at centre-left. Perfect information cuts both ways in the design: there is no fog, no percentage-to-hit gamble on the enemy's part, only geometry the player failed to answer. The stakes are wired into the same frame: the Power Grid up top is down to two lit segments, the generator the objectives tell you to protect ('Protect the Power Generator', alongside 'Defend the Disposal Unit' and the cheerfully impossible 'Dispose of all mountains') stands outlined at the board's top centre, and the green acid pools on the right wait as both hazard and tool. Where the first screen shows a turn being planned, this one shows a turn about to hurt, and shows it early enough to prevent. Frame at about 0:49 in the Into The Breach - Announcement Trailer video (Steam), a pipeline scene-change survivor (candidates/v0_0010.png at 49.23s, copied to the workdir root as battle-grid-enemy-intent-scarab.png).

Screen inventory

  • the same battle frame as the Lightning Mech screen, but the inspection has flipped sides: bottom-left now shows the enemy, a large Scarab portrait filling the panel, its name on a bar above it with a green move-3 icon, because the cursor is resting on a Vek, not a mech
  • four enemies crowd the board's lower-right quadrant and every one of them is declaring its attack: thick red arrows bend off the shield-bubbled unit at centre and off the fallen light mech on its striped tile, a straight red arrow rises from the cracked emergence tile at right, and red hand-shaped markers sit on two of the attackers
  • two separate red-striped target zones: one under the downed mech at lower left, one sweeping up toward the cylindrical buildings at centre-left, where two more bent red arrows point down at the building cluster
  • the objective being threatened stands at the board's top centre under a yellow selection outline: the Power Generator building with its green balloon-like tank, chimneys and canisters behind it
  • green acid pools spread across the right side, four bright tiles that are terrain, threat and weapon at once, since anything pushed into them corrodes
  • the familiar frame holds: POWER GRID with only two segments lit, GRID DEFENSE 15%, RESET TURN available (not greyed), End Turn / UNDO MOVE, the three pilot cards plus a fourth objective-unit card on the left rail, ATTACK ORDER top-right, Victory in 3 turns, and Bonus Objectives, 'Defend the Disposal Unit', 'Dispose of all mountains', 'Protect the Power Generator'; bottom-right tile card reads 'Ground Tile, No special effect.'
