What to study

The companion state to the Rising Flames frame, kept because the timeline does different work here: the enlarged head of the rail belongs to the enemy, so the screen announces whose turn it is by portrait before the Thwack banner names the skill, and it gives the monster the same banner and billing as any party member. Damage is reported in the party cards' colour language (Fina amber, her bar yellowed) rather than in alerts, and the two-gauge treatment under the ogre separates health from stagger so the player can see a break coming. Two frames of one system, but they answer different questions: how a turn is ordered, and how it feels to be on the receiving end. Frame at about 0:26 in the Demo Trailer video (Steam), a pipeline scene-change survivor (candidates/v1_0012.png at 26.2s).

Screen inventory

  • top: the same timeline rail, but its enlarged head slot now holds the enemy, a green-maned ogre in a red-lit diamond, with the party's four portraits queued behind it and a second enemy icon dropped below the rail for its later turn
  • centre banner: the enemy's skill, Thwack, announced in the same translucent strip the player's skills use, attacker and defender get identical typography
  • the ogre carries two gauges (pink HP over a pale stagger bar) at its feet; a second enemy, a harp-playing siren Vision-sized at right, waits without a card of its own
  • bottom-right: the three party cards in a damaged state, Fina's name and HP turned amber at 317, her HP bar part-yellow, the cards' colour, not a pop-up, reports who is in danger
