What to study

Zoom is Gorogoa's second verb, and this frame shows its consequence: once panels can be pushed in, seams stop aligning to a grid and start slicing through objects, the shelf, the wall diagram and the vessel are all cut by borders that belong to other panels. The storytelling follows the same rule as the branch in the crow frame, one level down: a carved cord in a stone diagram becomes a real cord on the floor because the panels touch. The gauge on the vessel is a rare true meter, drawn as part of the machine it measures. Frame at about 0:57 in the Launch Trailer (Steam), fine probe fine/launch_vessel_07.png at ~57s; the frame is caught during a slow trailer pan, so panel edges extend past the board on two sides.

Screen inventory

  • at this zoom the panels overflow the 2x2 board: a tall vessel panel at left, a wide shelf panel top-right and a wide wall panel bottom-right, their seams crossing scenes mid-object
  • the golden vessel is a double gourd with etched ornament, a round pressure gauge in its neck (red needle, red/green rim zones) and flat yellow flames over logs at its base
  • the shelf panel holds a labelled tin with a cloud emblem, a ringed lamp-like instrument and a spotted tin of dark fruit, over jars and rope below, a still life that is also an inventory
  • the wall panel's seam cuts through a carved diagram of hands cutting a cord; the cord itself leaves the carving, runs down the wall and across the floor to the boy, who stands at an ivy window holding the blue bowl
  • no frame lines announce the zoom change, panels keep their white borders at any scale, so a close-up and a landscape remain the same kind of object
