What to study

Three panels in, the board's logic is visible: unrelated places become neighbours, and meaning comes from the joins. The boy appears in only one panel, but the eye routes him through the doors the other panels offer, gravestone door, blank tower door, the lit pantry he already stands in. Gorogoa needs no map screen or objective list because the grid is both: what is placed is where you are, and the one white slot is what is missing. The cursor parked under the tower panel is the only sign of a player; the interface trusts the pictures to be the controls. Frame at about 0:54 in the Reveal Trailer (Steam), fine probe fine/reveal_grid_06.png at ~54s.

Screen inventory

  • top-left panel: a stone door with a crown-like top and a blue fanlight, set in a grass bank with fallen leaves, a doorway drawn as a gravestone
  • top-right panel: a dark room with a grey armchair and a cuckoo clock; the open pantry door spills warm light and the boy stands in it holding the blue bowl
  • bottom-left panel: a rooftop terrace with paint buckets, stacked pots and a cylindrical tower whose tall white door carries a small brass symbol
  • bottom-right slot stays blank white, and the mouse arrow rests under the tower panel, the board is mid-arrangement, caught between moves
  • every panel is a different place and hour (daylit grass, lamplit interior, grey rooftop) yet the shared square format and white gutters make them one surface
