What to study

Campaign structure presented as a military dossier, in the master-detail pattern RTS menus rarely commit to this fully: the left column is the archive, every Soviet mission a red row with its code and a star badge, and the right column is the opened file, theatre map, prose briefing, the mission's intro and completion films on buttons, and its difficulty on a three-stop slider. Nothing about the selected mission lives anywhere else; list and file share one riveted steel panel, so choosing a mission and reading its orders are the same gesture. The remaster's quiet improvement is that the dossier is unified across the collection: the trailer's passage flips this one screen through its GDI (green), Allied (blue), Soviet (red, this frame) and console-mission variants, the layout untouched while the faction's colour re-skins it, four campaigns, one filing system. The briefing text does the tonal work the 1996 original did with FMV alone, and it is not sanitised for the remaster: Stalin's orders in 'Lesson in Blood' still read 'Kill them all and destroy their homes.' Frame at about 1:41 in the Command & Conquer Remastered Collection Official Reveal Trailer video (Steam), a manual extraction (probes/v1-probe-100.5.png at 100.5s, copied to the workdir root as mission-select-soviet-campaign.png); the pipeline's scene-change pass caught this passage only mid-glitch (candidates/v1_0024.png at 99.03s, the Allied variant tearing), so the settled probe one beat later is the keeper.

  • left, the master list: Red Alert's Soviet campaign as red dossier rows, Guard Duty (South), Covert Cleanup, Behind the Lines (North) and (South), Distant Thunder, Bridge over the River Grotz..., Bridge over the River VizchGoi, Core of the Matter, each row carrying its mission code (Soviet 2 B, Soviet 3, Soviet 4 A...) and a silver star badge at its right edge
  • above the list, six small campaign-filter icons switch the dossier's source, the trailer's passage cycles the same screen through GDI, Allied, Soviet and Console variants, recoloring the list green, blue and red to match the faction
  • right, the detail pane for the selected first mission, 'Lesson in Blood, Soviet 1': a stylised Europe theatre map with a fat green arrow marking the operation, then the Mission Briefing as written prose ('A pitiful excuse for resistance has blockaded itself in this village...')
  • under the briefing, the mission's media and terms sit in one row: Introduction and Completion video buttons flanking a film-camera icon, and a difficulty slider whose three stops are labelled Casual, Normal and Hard with their own icons
  • the whole screen is one riveted brushed-steel panel, the same material language as the Red Alert sidebar, with Back bottom-left and Start bottom-right as the only exits
