What to study
Book of Hours turns every action into a verb panel, and this frame is the clearest statement of that grammar: a named verb (DESK: EVA), five typed slots (Soul, Skill, Memory, Papers, With), a cost row (CHALLENGES 5 / 10 / 15) and a START button. The player does not click 'use desk', they assemble an argument for the action from cards, and the panel judges whether the combination is legal. That the panel is translucent over the dollhouse library matters: the desk is a place you can see, and the verb is something you do there, so management and fiction stay in one view instead of splitting into a menu layer and a world layer. Frame at about 0:17 in Welcome to Hush House (Steam; scene-change survivor v0_0002).

Screen inventory
- the verb panel is the screen: a black-and-gold modal titled DESK: EVA, its left side a prose description of 'a magnificent eighteenth-century secretary desk commissioned for Lady Eva Dewulf, last of the Brancrug Dewulfs', its right side five labelled slots, Soul, Skill, Memory on top, Papers and With below, with a single card, Ereb, already placed, and a CHALLENGES row (5 / 10 / 15) and a START [S] button along the bottom
- the panel floats over the library itself: Hush House rendered as a dollhouse cross-section behind it, the telescope room, the candle-lit chapel, the red-walled salon, so the verb is visibly an action performed at a piece of furniture in a place, not an abstract menu
- the top bar carries the game's time and resource grammar: circular eye and list buttons, a sun/moon phase track, and a card tooltip at top right for XANTHOTIC ESSENCE with its flavour text and six aspect icons with counts (2, 2, 5 and more), the game's vocabulary of principles made countable
- the bottom dock is the card library in full: two rows of named cards, Memory: A Stolen Secret, Memory: Hindsight, Ereb, Trist, Health [Half-Drowned], Fet [fatigued], Sickle & Eclipse, Lesson: Fucine, Applebright Euphonies, Blacksmith's Assistance, A Letter to the Librarian, Midwife's Assistance, each a small painted illustration with a name plate, scrollable by column
- the left edge shows the verb buttons themselves: large circular eye and lips icons, the game's two families of action, with a roman-numeral marker (I) beside the house
