What to study

Train signals are where Workers & Resources stops being a city painter and becomes a logistics puzzle, and this frame shows why the overlay matters: blocks are not listed in a menu, they are painted onto the track in purple, blue and orange, with direction arrows stating which way each block may be entered. The CHAIN and MIXED tools in the bottom bar are the vocabulary, chain signals that look ahead through junctions, mixed signals that behave as both, and the coloured junction is the sentence they write. That signals live in the same build bar as roads and depots, under the same category tabs, is the point: signalling is treated as ordinary infrastructure, as buildable and as consequential as the rails themselves, and a badly signalled junction will strangle a republic exactly as surely as a missing road. Frame at about 1:52 in the Gameplay Trailer (Steam; scene-change survivor v0_0048).

Screen inventory

  • the junction is painted in signal logic: parallel tracks glow purple, blue and orange by block, with green, red and teal direction arrows riding the rails and small signal posts at the block boundaries, the overlay turns an abstract block system into coloured track you can read at a glance
  • the bottom bar names the tools that made the colours: the Railway group is open with a Signals row offering CHAIN, MIXED and a red-X (remove) tool, beside Depots, For citizens, For cargo and Refuelling, under the same General Transportation / Cargo & Storage / Networks / For Citizens / Industry tabs as every other build screen, signals are one more building category, not a separate mode
  • a single MIXED signal post is selected mid-junction, its icon floating above the track, while a road with moving cars crosses the junction at grade, the frame catches the game at two scales at once, the signalling puzzle and the traffic it serves
  • the top bar (29. May 1998, 13,775 citizens, 24 °C, 89% health, 70% happiness) and the right-hand tool toggles stay in place, so even deep in signal placement the republic's state and the build tools never leave the screen
