What to study
Townscaper's whole interface is in this frame, and it is almost nothing: a tile, a red rim, and three ghost rings on the water. There is no toolbar to learn because the grid itself is the tool, the irregular cells are invisible until you click, and the hover rings are the only affordance telling you a click will land. The design lesson is subtraction carried to the limit: a building game that refuses to show its palette, trusting that one placed tile teaches the verb (click water, get land) better than any menu could. Frame at about 0:11 in the All-platforms Trailer (Steam; scene-change survivor v0_0002). Note: the trailer never shows the colour-palette bar itself; this frame documents the grid input, not the palette UI.

Screen inventory
- a single octagonal-ish tile sits alone in open teal sea, seen top-down: a tiled plaza surface edged in red, the irregular grid made visible by the one cell the player has just placed
- three faint cursor rings hover in the water to the right of the tile, at different sizes, the only interface in frame, and it is diegetic: the game shows where a click will land by ringing the water, not by drawing a toolbar
- a soft blob shadow falls to the tile's lower left, the only depth cue; there is no palette bar, no menu, no button anywhere in frame, which is itself the design statement
- the tile's red rim reads as a selection edge: the placed cell is outlined against the sea, so the grid is taught one click at a time rather than drawn in advance
