What to study

Between decisions, Suzerain is this map, and its discipline is what it leaves out. There are no unit stacks, no resource ribbons, no minimap: a painted atlas of regions, miniature city models for settlements, the road and rail web, and a single gold pin wherever the presidency is required next. Geography still does strategic work, Bergia's distinct colouring, the capital's oversized dome model, the neighbours pressing at the sheet's edges, but it is presented as orientation, not optimisation, which fits a game whose turns are conversations and documents. The lone 'Return to Decision' tab states the loop plainly: look at your country, then go back and govern it. Frame at about 0:48 in the Suzerain Trailer (Steam; scene-change survivor v0_0010).

Screen inventory

  • the whole country on one painted sheet: Sordland's regions are flat colour washes with their names lettered across them, Lachaven in orange, Geyland, Holsord in yellow around the domed capital, Lorren in green, Bergia in brown, with rivers, red rail/road lines and the Gulf of Nargis drawn like a school atlas
  • every city is a small physical model sitting on the map, a miniature skyline on a round base, the capital's dome larger than the rest, so the map reads as a president's desk model, not a satellite view
  • exactly one piece of chrome intrudes: a gold exclamation pin over Lachaven marks the pending decision, and a single 'Return to Decision' tab hangs at the top, the map's job between choices is to show where the country needs you, and nothing else competes with that
