What to study

Roadwarden's map is a survival planner disguised as a road drawing. Where most RPG maps mark places by name and faction, this one marks them by what they let you do, sleep, eat, trade, fish, because in a game about travelling a hostile peninsula on foot, a stop's value is its services and its travel time, and the card states both ('Travel time: 2:45') before you commit to the road. The key teaches the icon language once, at left, and every location card reuses it, so a glance at the card's icon row tells you whether the inn is worth the walk. Frame at about 0:02 in the Release Trailer (Steam; manual extraction).

Screen inventory

  • the map itself is a single winding road across a dark field, drawn in the same pixel style as the scenes: a palisade settlement at top, a dead tree, a walled inn, a chapel, a dolmen, each a tiny illustration rather than a pin, with three large pale arrows at the north end marking exits the map scrolls toward
  • the left edge is a Map Key that defines places by service, not by name: Nighttime shelter, Daytime rest, Meals or supplies, Trader, Tailor, Mundane job, Safe water source, Fishing spot, each with its own small icon, so the map is read as a survival checklist before it is read as geography
  • a hovered location opens a detail card at bottom right: 'Pelt of the North, A massive inn surrounded by a wall. A shelter from monsters and highwaymen. Travel time: 2:45', with the same service icons repeated in miniature above the description, tying the card back to the key
  • the only other chrome is a single curved back-arrow button at top right; there are no menus, no player marker, no coordinates, the map's information is the road, the key and the card, nothing else
