What to study

Suzerain's campaign promises are its character creation, and the screen treats them that way: before the term begins, the game asks for a handful of commitments in plain language, economic direction first, each presented as a short brief, a two-option radio choice and a Next button, with no stats, no percentages and no way to hedge. The design lesson is restraint as stakes: because the panel shows nothing but the promise and the map of the country that will live with it, the player feels the weight a real manifesto carries, and the persistent chrome around the panel (growth meter, budget counters, the president's portrait, the News and decree rails) quietly promises that this choice will be tracked. Frame at about 0:32 in the Suzerain Trailer (Steam; scene-change survivor v0_0005).

Screen inventory

  • the founding choice is a single dark panel centred over the painted country map: a short brief ('As Anton Rayne, you have made consequential promises to the people of Sordland to gain their votes in the 1953 election campaign') and then one named decision at a time, here Economic Direction, framed as a country 'stuck between two different economic systems'
  • the two options are plain radio rows, not cards or icons: 'Promote Planned Economy' and 'Promote Market Economy', each a filled or hollow circle, the whole ideology of a presidency reduced to two lines and a Next button
  • the presidency stays visible around the panel: the GROWTH meter and budget counters (7 / 0) run along the top, Anton Rayne's portrait sits at lower left, and the map's city models and the right-hand icon rail (News 0, government, diplomacy, codex, decrees) frame the choice, a decision is never made in a vacuum, the state it changes is literally behind it
