What to study

Where the designation ghost is the room as plan, this overlay is the room as diagram: one flat blue per room, furniture flattened into line-drawings, the tile grid still faintly ruled underneath. It is the same move Cities: Skylines and Oxygen Not Included make with their info views, sacrifice the picture to make extent and contents comparable at a glance, but Syx applies it per room rather than per network, because the room is its unit of civic design: a room's size, furniture and stock are what make it a bakery or a barracks. Two rooms side by side in the tint show the payoff, you can judge both rooms' layouts in the time it takes to look at one street. Frame at about 0:38 in the Sacrifice of Bob (Steam; scene-change survivor v1_0014).

Screen inventory

  • both built rooms are flooded tile-by-tile with the same bright blue, walls excluded: the tint stops exactly at each room's own extent, so two neighbouring rooms read as two separate diagrams on one street
  • through the tint, the left room's furniture survives as darker blue line-drawings, beds, tables and fittings reduced to glyphs, while a dashed sub-grid still shows across the floor: the overlay simplifies the room to furniture plus tiles without hiding either
  • the right-hand room is storage: goods piles, barrels and crates sit in a loose grid on the blue tiles, stock readable as texture rather than as numbers
  • citizens are still visible working inside the tint and the street outside stays natural stone and grass, the overlay recolours rooms, not the world, and the game keeps simulating underneath it
