What to study

Dawn of Equinox turned a single-player JRPG into three-player local co-op, and this one panel is the entire onboarding: who exists, who is already taken, and how a third friend joins, no lobby, no invite flow, no separate mode. The mapping is shown as the party itself rather than as abstract device slots, so 'your controller, your character' reads at a glance from the couch. Leaving the world visible behind the panel signals that joining costs nothing: the game does not stop to become a multiplayer game. Frame at 0:03.0 in the Dawn of Equinox trailer (manual extraction; the scene-change pass missed the whole opening beat).

Screen inventory

  • a centred 'Assign Players' title bar over a three-column panel, one column per party member
  • column heads: the character sprites (Valere, Zale, Garl) under player pins, a teal 'P1' pin with the host's crown glyph in the first column's corner, a gold 'P2' pin in the second
  • under P1 and P2, large gamepad glyphs flanked by left/right arrows for swapping which controller drives which character
  • the third column's pad slot is empty and simply reads 'PRESS TO JOIN'
  • the panel floats over the live savanna map, which stays fully visible and unblurred around it
