What to study

Roadwarden's crafting screen is a contract written out in full. Before the player can say yes, the game lists every cost in a different currency: a combat benefit now, a vulnerability tonight, three dragon bones to the maker, two named ingredients from the world, two hours off the road. That is the game's survival economy stated as prose, every advantage is priced in time, health or inventory, and the binary choice underneath ('I make the poison' / 'Maybe another time') is honest about it being a decision rather than a procedure. No crafting grid could carry the nightfall drawback; a sentence can. Frame at about 0:07 in the Release Trailer (Steam; manual extraction, a narrow window: the choice-list frame precedes it at 6.5s and the title card follows at 6.9s).

Choices

Screen inventory

  • the centre column states the whole transaction before offering any button: the effect ('makes one's senses quicker and alerted... an edge in combat for the rest of combat, but puts a burden on the shell during nightfall'), the maker's fee ('Foggy's due: 3 dragon bones'), the ingredients ('a snake bait flower, a cave ear mushroom') and the time ('Preparation time: 2 hours')
  • under the rule there are exactly two options, 'I make the poison' and 'Maybe another time', so the screen is a costed decision, not a crafting menu: no progress bar, no quantity stepper, no recipe grid
  • the left panel is the hut itself, a cutaway isometric interior of beams, shelves, pots and a ladder, which is also the place the choice happens in, the game keeps its rule that every system screen is still a place
  • the right column is the permanent menu and icon rail once more, here showing the journal scroll glyph at the bottom, the one icon that changes with context across the five kept frames
