What to study

Deploying a Battlework does not open a build menu, it re-draws the battlefield. One keypress lays a surveyor's grid over the live war, paints the forbidden ground red (the zones hug the footprints of what's already built, so 'no' is a shape, not a tooltip), and hangs the piece you are placing in the world as a cyan hologram on the one saturated-blue tile where it is allowed to go. The whole transaction fits in a two-line chip pinned to the ghost, Place, Cancel, each with its mouse icon, because there is nothing else to decide: the grid has already answered where, and the ghost answers what it will look like. Underneath the mode, the match keeps its own books: the Giant's nameplate and Soldier count stay live at centre frame, a reminder that in this game construction happens inside the fight, not between fights. Frame at 1:03.0 in the Gameplay Trailer (manual extraction; the scene-change pass never fired inside the placement sequence). Disclosed: the trailer's burned-in caption 'GIANT SLAYER BUNKERS' runs along the bottom of the frame.

Screen inventory

  • a fine square grid laid over the whole live battlefield, lanes, ruins and armies stay visible underneath; entering placement mode re-draws the war as a board
  • irregular red zones with bright outlines mark where building is forbidden: they wrap the existing domed structures at left and top and the large enemy installation at right, following those buildings' footprints rather than neat rectangles
  • at left, the piece being placed: a cyan holographic dome, the Giant Slayer Bunker as a translucent ghost, sitting on a saturated blue valid tile, with a small hammer cursor icon over it and a thin blue sight wedge running off-frame from it
  • the prompt chip pinned under the ghost: a black rounded box with a mouse icon and 'Place', and beneath it a second mouse icon and 'Cancel', the entire verb set of the mode in two lines
  • the battle does not pause for the mode: Dreadnought's nameplate (11k, segmented yellow bar, 145/145 Soldiers) stands live at centre over its Giant and a glowing Soldier crowd, and a white move arrow is painted on the ground at lower right

Source details

Fetched 2026-10-24. verified 2026-10-24: frame is a manual extraction (manual-bunker-63_0.png @ 63.0s) from the verified-clean curl-shim download of the Gameplay Trailer (Steam), inspected visually at full resolution; placement grid, red no-build zones, the cyan bunker ghost on its blue tile, the hammer cursor, the 'Place / Cancel' prompt chip and Dreadnought's 11k / 145/145 nameplate all legible; a fresh extraction at 63.0s byte-hash-matches this file exactly (MD5 identical). Disclosed: the trailer caption 'GIANT SLAYER BUNKERS' is burned into the bottom of the source frame
