What to study

Trenches are not placed, they are drawn, and the interface is a conversation in two verbs. The first click anchors the line (the white segment at the top of the frame, already ticked with direction marks); while you stretch it, the prompt at the cursor reads 'Set end point', having read 'Move Mouse' a moment before, and a cost chip beside it counts the price live, 11, with its resource cube, so the trench's length is quite literally its cost, quoted before you commit. Cancel rides under the verb the whole time. The grammar is identical to the bunker placement (grid, red forbidden shapes, cyan ghost) but the geometry is opposite: a point becomes an area for the bunker, a point becomes a line for the trench, and the same prompt chip carries both by changing one line of text. Frame at 1:05.0 in the Gameplay Trailer (manual extraction; the scene-change pass never fired inside the placement sequence). Disclosed: the trailer's burned-in caption 'TRENCHES' sits at lower left.

Screen inventory

  • the same placement grid and red no-build zones as the bunker frame, but the piece here is a line: at top centre a white trench segment already sits on the ground, its length marked by a row of small black direction ticks with cyan bars, running from an anchor toward the Giant
  • mid-draw state at right of centre: a cluster of cyan soldier ghosts where the line is heading, with a thin blue arc, the draw in progress
  • two black chips float beside the cursor: a cost chip reading '11' with a small tan resource cube icon, and the prompt chip, mouse icon, 'Set end point', and 'Cancel' under it (a second earlier in the same draw the prompt read 'Move Mouse': the verb updates as the draw advances)
  • Dreadnought's nameplate (11k, 145/145) stands over the Giant at centre, and its Soldier crowd glows beneath it; the red zone at left swallows a whole curved street of enemy soldiers
  • small cyan segmented bars over the domed structures at left and bottom, placed Battleworks carry their own health ticks in the same language as the Giants

Source details

Fetched 2026-10-24. verified 2026-10-24: frame is a manual extraction (manual-trenches-65_0.png @ 65.0s) from the verified-clean curl-shim download of the Gameplay Trailer (Steam), inspected visually at full resolution; the set trench segment with direction ticks, the cost chip '11', the 'Set end point / Cancel' prompt, Dreadnought's nameplate and the red no-build zones all legible; a fresh extraction at 65.0s byte-hash-matches this file exactly (MD5 identical). Disclosed: the trailer caption 'TRENCHES' is burned into the lower left of the source frame
