What to study

Zoomed in, the wand panel becomes a sentence: projectile, modifier, modifier, projectile, because a Noita wand casts its slots in order, the row is not storage, it is code, and the panel supports that reading with total plainness: one sprite, two stats, ten boxes, charge counts printed on the icons that carry them, and nothing else competing for attention. It is the rare RPG equipment screen with no rarity colours, no damage-per-second number and no flavour text, the arrangement is the character build. Frame at about 0:10 in the Noita - 1.0 Launch Trailer (Steam; manual extraction, the trailer zooms from the inventory into this panel; the zoom is the trailer's camera, the panel itself is the game's own).

Screen inventory

  • the panel is one wand, life-size: the cyan wand's sprite at left, then the two stats set as a tiny two-row table, Shuffle / No, Spells/Cast / 10, in the game's pixel font, with no other numbers anywhere on the panel
  • the slot row is the build, read left to right like a sentence: a gold spark spell, a red plus modifier, a wave modifier, a purple burst carrying a 5 in its corner, a green burst marked 7, one empty slot, a lightning-wave spell, then three empties, charges are printed on the icons themselves, and modifiers sit in the same row as the spells they will change
  • the icons are little pixel pictures of what they do, a wave for the wave modifier, a plus for added power, starbursts for projectiles, so the row can be read by a player who has never seen a tooltip
  • above the panel, only the bottom edge of the wand card above survives the trailer's zoom (its 10-charge fire spell icon): this is the selected wand from the inventory frame, enlarged until the panel fills the screen, the game gives the panel no title and no buttons; the slots are the interface
