What to study

Monster Hunter: World's armor shop is a matrix, not a menu list: three sets crossed with five body parts, so the whole early-game wardrobe fits on one screen and comparison is a glance across a row rather than a scroll through entries. Ownership is compressed into a single letter, the green 'E' tags quietly answer 'what am I already wearing?' inside the same grid, and the selected piece gets the full sales treatment at right: a name, a floating render, and exactly one number, its 300 z cost, with no stat block competing for attention on a purchase screen. The live preview closes the loop: the hunter on the left is already standing in the set you are browsing, so buying is dressing a person, not filling a spreadsheet. The trailer's caption banner is burned in along the bottom of the frame and is disclosed here; it covers none of the menu. Frame at about 0:09 in the Defender α Armor showcase trailer (Steam; manual extraction, the scene-change pass missed this menu beat, the dense filmstrip scan found it).

Screen inventory

  • the screen is headed by a breadcrumb in teal serif type, a guild-crest icon, 'Armory', an arrow, 'Purchase Armor', laid over the blue guild banner motif at top left, and every panel uses the same dark translucent fill with thin green filigree corners, so the shop reads as one stamped guild document
  • the centre panel is a two-axis matrix instead of a list: armor Sets run down the left (Leather, Chainmail, Defender α) against five Parts columns, head, chest, arms, waist, legs, drawn as small monochrome part icons; pieces already equipped carry a bright green 'E' tag and the cursor cell (the Defender arms slot) is outlined in pale green
  • the right rail is the detail card for the selected cell: 'Defender Vambraces α' over a floating 3D render of the gauntlets, with a single Required Cost line, a zenny coin icon and '300 z', while the left third of the screen is a live full-body preview of the hunter already wearing the Defender α set, shield on his arm and the scoutfly lantern glowing green at his belt

Source details

Fetched 2026-10-26. verified 2026-10-26: manual extraction fine/armory-8.5.png @ 8.50s in the Defender α Armor showcase trailer (Steam movie 256769016), MD5 6ca20fc57cb06e4c9715c49cd234d9b2, from the pipeline's stock-ffmpeg HLS download (35,937,581 B, MD5 9a7e855cf6ae9d9044e8e9ca0cdc08e8; full decode to null with -xerror exit 0, zero error lines, decode-pipeline-file.err), inspected visually at full resolution (1920x1080 native); the Purchase Armor set-by-part grid with its E tags, the Defender Vambraces α detail card, the 300 z cost and the live hunter preview all legible; the trailer's caption banner is burned in along the bottom and is disclosed in the elements and study note. Provenance: run.py sanitised both Defender clips to the same output filename, so this video is stored as steam-582010-191128-English-US-STEAM.mp4 although its content is the armor clip, identified by the on-screen Defender α Armor comparison and the Armory beat; the pipeline's candidates.json labels these frames with the weapons clip's title, which is wrong (see review-notes.md)
