What to study
Foundation's signature mechanic is painting, not placing on a grid: zones are freehand blobs brushed onto the terrain, blue for woodcutting and green for residential here, with the brush preview drawn as a dashed circle. The PAINT panel names only four zone types, and a Controls Help card teaches the brush gestures (paint, erase, resize) in the same frame, so the gridless idea is legible without a tutorial. Frame at about 0:30 in the Release Date and Demo Trailer (Steam).
