What to study

The same HUD under a boss, half a second of trailer later and a different fight entirely: Aerith mid-Tempest, petals everywhere, a huge red boss filling the top of the frame, and the interface refusing to raise its voice. Targeting is a single cyan bracket reticle pinned to the boss's body; the bottom-left shortcuts now read E Tempest / F Attack because the corner always belongs to the character being controlled; the bottom-right ledger has rotated its detail to Aerith (HP 1831/1831, MP 26, ATB and Limit labelled), Cloud and Tifa compressed to name, HP and MP above her. That rotation is the system: three characters share one small corner, and full detail follows whoever is active. Frame at about 0:15 in the ESRB_EN trailer video (Steam), a pipeline scene-change survivor (candidates/v0_0017.png at 14.54s).

Screen inventory

  • centre, the lock-on reticle, a small cyan bracket-and-cross mark floating on the boss's body, the only targeting furniture the game needs: who is locked is shown on the enemy, not in a panel
  • bottom-left, the shortcut list has updated to the acting character: E Tempest, F Attack, Commands Menu, Aerith's ability name replaces Cloud's Punisher Mode, so the corner always describes whoever you are controlling right now
  • bottom-right, the party ledger again, Cloud 1881/2233 MP 37, Tifa 1763/2010 MP 31, Aerith HP 1831/1831 MP 26 with ATB and Limit labelled under the active character (Aerith), full HP after the fight's turn order has rotated
  • pink petal effects from the Tempest ability fill the mid-ground around Aerith and her staff, and the boss looms red and huge above her, spectacle everywhere except the corners, where the type stays small, cyan and calm

Fetched 2026-10-21. verified 2026-10-21: pipeline scene-change frame (candidates/v0_0017.png, 14.54s) inspected visually at full resolution (1920x1080 native) and confirmed as a genuine, settled, fully legible battle frame, the lock-on reticle, Tempest/Attack shortcuts and all three party stat blocks are sharp; petal effects are the ability's own, not a transition overlay
