What to study

Tape to Tape's run starts on a character sheet disguised as a team photo. The squad pick is a grid of shield-framed portraits where locked skaters are pure silhouettes, the chosen captain gets the only full-body art, and the screen spends its remaining space on two kinds of memory: the squad's Records (fastest win, wins, top scorer) at top-right and its Starting Relics as an empty frosted grid at right, what this team has done, and what it will carry, flanking who it is. Frame at about 0:04 in the Official 1.0 release trailer video (Steam), a pipeline scene-change survivor (candidates/v0_0001.png at 4.3s).

Screen inventory

  • left: the squad portrait grid, nine unlocked cartoon faces in shield frames, the rest black silhouettes, so roster progress reads as filled vs empty shields before any name is read
  • centre: the selected squad's captain leans out of the team van at full-body scale, with the squad name on a blue banner (Vanilla Squad) and a one-line plain-language verdict beneath it, 'A simple, balanced team built for any playstyle'
  • top-right: a Records panel keeps the squad's history on the selection screen itself, Fastest Win 38:16, Wins 11, Most Goals R. Kirby (7)
  • right: the Starting Relics panel is a frosted, still-empty grid, the run's build slots shown before the run starts; bottom corners carry the controller prompts (B Back, A Start Run)
