What to study

A town in Songs of Conquest is run from one dark panel that never cuts away from the town it governs, North Wille's domes and walls frame the sheet on every side. The Draft Troops tab lays the roster out as sixteen cards, and the grid itself teaches the army: basic troops on the top row, their upgraded forms directly beneath them at roughly triple the gold, each card quoting its pool ('3/3', '6/6') and its price or its problem in the same breath. The refusal states are the telling detail. A troop the town cannot yet produce is not a padlock or a red X; it is a grey silhouette that says 'Not trained', and a spent pool says 'Pool is empty', the panel explains itself in plain words a first-time player already understands. Tabs for Upgrade Troops and Defence promise the same treatment for the town's other two jobs. Frame at 0:37.5 in the Feature Overview (Steam; manual extraction, the panel opens and closes inside a single held shot, so the scene-change pass never fired on it).

Screen inventory

  • the panel's header names the settlement, NORTH WILLE, under a circular faction medallion, with a close X at the top-right; the town itself (Barya's domed, walled streets) stays visible around the panel on all four sides
  • three tabs divide a town's whole military business: DRAFT TROOPS, UPGRADE TROOPS, DEFENCE, recruitment, improvement and garrison as siblings, not separate buildings' menus
  • sixteen troop cards in two rows of eight; the two rows read as the roster's two tiers, basic troops above and their upgraded forms below in matching columns (the spear troop at 600 gold above its 1740-gold upgrade)
  • each card carries the full transaction: a troop portrait, essence pips in its top-right corner, a quantity slider with the available pool as a fraction (3/3, 6/6, 0/0), and either a green gold-cost button (450, 600, 1050, 1680, 1740, 2100, 4200) or a plain status line
  • unavailable troops are not hidden or locked behind icons, they are grey silhouettes labelled 'Not trained', and an empty pool says so in words: 'Pool is empty'

Source details

Fetched 2026-10-24. verified 2026-10-24: frame is a manual extraction (manual-town-draft-37_5.png @ 37.5s) from the verified-clean curl-shim download of the Feature Overview (Steam), inspected visually at full resolution; the NORTH WILLE header, DRAFT TROOPS / UPGRADE TROOPS / DEFENCE tabs, all sixteen troop cards with pool fractions (0/0, 3/3, 6/6), gold costs (450–4200) and 'Not trained' / 'Pool is empty' states legible; a fresh extraction at 37.5s from the canonical mp4 byte-hash-matches this file exactly (MD5 dc7f961a6793330fc79a901ee0e6a871); fine probes at 35.0–39.0s in 0.5s steps (probe/v0_w*.png) confirm the panel is fully open and settled at 37.5s; no trailer caption, watermark or logo overlays the frame
