What to study
Pentiment's dialogue does not wait its turn. In the church, after a body is found, two voices sound at once and this frame catches them mid-overlap: a short blackletter shout, 'No! No!', already settled at the top of the shot, and beneath it a prayer, 'Ave Maria, gratia plen', still typing itself out in a loose italic hand, the line breaking off mid-word because the speaker has not finished it. That unfinished line is the design worth studying, and it is the one thing none of the game's five existing Gallery screens shows. Every kept screen so far shows settled text: a completed line, a completed chorus, a completed demand. Here the interface is caught in the act of writing, so a visitor can see that Pentiment's bubbles appear progressively, letter by letter, rather than arriving whole, and that a second voice can sound before the first has finished. The two bubbles also show the system's range in miniature: the shout is set in heavy blackletter, the prayer in italic, so even before either line is read, the letterforms say panic in one voice and devotion in the other, and the ribbon tails tangle toward the same knot of clergy and townsfolk at the right edge, which is how the game attributes overlapping speech without name plaques or portraits. Behind the bubbles the scene stays readable: choir stalls, the painted frieze across the top of the wall, the body on the floor at lower left, and the single candle at lower right. Frame at about 1:06 in the Pentiment Launch Trailer (Steam), second-pass extraction sp-alt-ave-maria-655.png at 65.5s by accurate seek, inspected at full resolution (1920x1080). The earlier bracket at 65.0s shows the same two bubbles with only 'Ave Maria' typed so far, and the later bracket at 66.0s is a transitional pan toward the left of the church with the top bubble half cut and fading, so 65.5s is the kept frame: the most prayer visible while the typing is still visibly in progress. The 'No! No!' voice appears in no existing Pentiment screen: the settled four-bubble chorus (pentiment-3) contains only prayers. No trailer burn-in, watermark or caption appears in this frame.

Screen inventory
- the upper bubble, 'No! No!', in heavy blackletter, fully settled, its curled scroll end at upper left and its ribbon tail dropping toward the knot of speakers at the right edge
- the lower bubble, 'Ave Maria, gratia plen', in a loose italic hand, caught mid-typing: the line breaks off mid-word because the speaker has not finished it
- no speaker name plaque on either bubble, unlike the tagged examination and night bubbles elsewhere in the trailer
- the knot of speakers at right, partly hidden behind the bubbles: clergy and townsfolk, a nun in a veil, a bearded monk, a tonsured figure with a cross
- the scene behind: a church interior with choir stalls, a painted frieze of dancing figures and a skeleton with a trumpet across the top of the wall, a bloodied body on the floor at lower left, a single candle burning at lower right
- no HUD, prompt, cursor, choice list or continue arrow anywhere: the two bubbles are the entire interface in the frame
